Socioeconomic Context

28% of children aged 5-17 years-old in Ghana are involved in child labor, and 21% of them are engaged in hazardous forms of labor (UNICEF, 2023). 45% minors working on Lake Volta are suspected to be working under exploitative child labor conditions (International Justice Mission, 2022).

What We Fund

A transitional home and the first point of refuge for children rescued from slavery, the Hovde Home provides comprehensive care and survivor support to 300 children a year.

About Our Partner

Challenging Heights works to protect children’s rights and end child trafficking. They focus on addressing the trafficking of children to Lake Volta, where they are forced to work in hazardous conditions of the fishing industry. Challenging Heights has three core programs – rescue and recovery, prevention, prevention, and advocacy. They serve over 450 children annually.
