Hovde Homes
Honduras: Legacy of Hope Foundation
Partner in Honduras since 2017
Socioeconomic Context
An estimated 64% of Hondurans live in poverty (Honduran National Institute of Statistics, 2023).
What We Fund
There are two Hovde Homes at Legacy of Hope. The first is the Crisis Care Center, a unique, family-style emergency shelter that receives children for short periods of time until child services can relocate them to a safe environment. It is the only resource of its kind in this region of the country. The second is a temporary home for infants and young children waiting for foster and adoptive families to become available, which could take a couple of years.
About Our Partner
Legacy of Hope’s vision is that every child will have a safe and loving family. They provide emergency care to abandoned and at-risk children of all ages in the tri-state region of Honduras. They support children while their case is being processed by child services and until they are reunited with their biological family. Over 200 children a year are supported by Legacy of Hope through their 4 core programs – foster care, transition care, crisis care and family preservation.
